Lisen is a stubborn dog, has always been! And after 9 years of experience, she knows how to get what she wants when she wants it. I know I should be stricter sometimes, but she is too darn cute. And the fact that she is getting older and slower simply makes her more charming than she has ever been.

Summer on the balcony

Lisen does her best to keep cool in the warm weather by spending a lot of time on the balcony, especially evenings, nights and early mornings. Of course she is usually out there when I am as well.
Do I need to say more about how she feels about this warm weather...pics speak for themselves.

Tropical heat and Lisen in heat!

Heat is everywhere right now. The temperature is over +30C outside, insane! And Lisen is in heat again.
It's not easy being a black furry dog right now. Lisen just walks around, huffing, looking for a cool place to rest. At nights she prefers to sleep on the balcony but during the day it's not easy to find a comfortable place to lie. I can't take her swimming because she is in heat so there is really not much to do but to wait it out.

A sunny cool summerday!

Today I took Lisen to Wämöparken, which lies next to the sea so of course I had to let her take a swim. While she was in the water busy fetching the stick I had thrown I noticed a lot of birdfamilies in the area and one bird held a close eye on Lisen while she was in the water. It took some time before Lisen noticed them but as soon as I saw she started to look at them and wag her tail, bathtime was over. But Lisen was still happy and seemed content with her time in the water.
It was a hot day today but because Lisen had cooled down in the water I took for a strole in the park as well. She always loves new smells and had a great time.

It's suuummeeeer!

The heat has arrived...Of course Lisen is not as excited about this as I am. And I understand her. Her fur is like a Newfoundlands, which is very tolernat to cold climate and water-resitant, so when it is above +15 C she would rather be in water or shade.
Today me and Lisen went to the forest and after that home to my mother to help in the garden. Lisen had a lot of energy, despite the heat, and wanted to play with Diva (who was also at my mothers) but Diva is in heat now and are only interested in male dogs. Lisen tried and tried to play with her but Diva just ignored her all day.
As soon as we got home Lisen wanted her food and then she went straight into the bathroom, her favourite resting place during the day, and fell asleep pretty quickly.

Below left: Lisen in the car. I have ordered a grid to put up in the back because Lisen always climbs over the backseat and into the front...not very safe. But for now, this is how she rides in the car.

Lisen is happy and in good shape, which always makes me feel good and proud.
Lately I have been working a bit more and therefore Lisen has been staying a few days at a time with my mom. Usually when I leave her there she seem like she'd rather be with me, but the last times it is the other way around...hm. Of course it could just be in my head, I don't know.
Today on our "sunday walk" we met an old doggie friend of Lisens. Lisen is so funny. She saw the dog from a distance and as we walked towards each other, a few meters from them she stopped and started to "smell" something in the grass. I know she just pretends to so she can keep an eye on the other dog. Anyway the sniffed each other and as usual Lisen wanted to play with the other, small, dog. But he was not really up for it, which he never has been, so it was just a hello between them and then we continued on our way. |
 She looks a bit suspicious...hm.

Toothache is never fun...

So Lisen somehow knocked out a piece of one of her small frontteeth. I did'nt notice it for quite a while but I saw that she was very faint, irritated and did'nt feel like doing much. Eventually I took her to the vet and the said that she had a piece of her tooth left and it probably has been very painful for her. The pulled the rest of the tooth out and. As soons as the drugs wore off she was herself again :-)
Lisen turned nine years old last thursday, March 17th. She got a lot of her favourite foods and treats as well as wrapped presents. She always love to unwrap the gifts more than the actual gifts...
Finally the snow is starting to melt!! Of course now the street is dirty and that makes Lisen dirty and thats makes the apartment dirty and Lisen is also changing her fur so guess if I have to vacuum a lot...

It's been a while...
2010-02-12
Lisen has had a great christmas, kind of ok new years and a very long winter. It just can not seem to stop snowing here! Because Lisen is older and have a bit of a backproblem she does not like the cold so much anymore. But I always have a jacket on her now when we go outside and she does seem to feel a lot better with it on her.
At the moment we are staying at my mothers house, while she is abroad, together with my sister and Diva. Lisen kind of likes it here, some days more than others. This is mostly because at home she gets a lot more walks than here, especially now when there is so much snow outside as well.
